GN Disheartened by EU Court Decision on Seal Products
IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 1, 2010) - The Honourable Eva Aariak, Premier of Nunavut, together with the Honourable Daniel Shewchuk, Minister of Environment, expressed profound disappointment over the recent European Union court ruling that cancels the temporary suspension of the seal product ban. In a decision last week, the President of the European Union (EU) Court rejected the "Request for Interim Measures" brought forward by a 16 plaintiff consortium.

Premier, Minister of Environment Applaud
Premier Eva Aariak and Nunavut Minister of Environment Daniel Shewchuk applaud the Government of Canada for taking formal action against the European Union (EU) ban on trade in seal products by requesting WTO consultations. The consultation is the first stage in the WTO settlement process whereby Canada will dispute the EU decision on grounds that it violates several international trade rules.

WTO Process: A Necessary step by Canada in Response to Seal Ban
IQALUIT, Nunavut (July 28, 2009) The Government of Nunavut today endorsed Canada’s appeal for the European Union to re-consider Monday’s decision to ban seal products, and supported the federal government’s intentions to defend the interests of Canadian sealing under the World Trade Organization [WTO] agreements.
