The Inuit of Nunavut have survived for many generations in one of the world’s most extreme natural environments. They make no apologies for their traditional way of life or cultural values. Seals will be hunted on a sustainable basis for generations to come, both for the excellent food they provide and for skins that can be turned into elegant and functional garments.
Inuit and Nunavummiut will continue to educate the public about their sealing story: how sealing is carried out in Nunavut and about its importance economically, socially, and culturally. By sharing their resources, traditional knowledge and humane practices with the world, they will continue to counter the misinformation about our sustainable harvest.
